Any investment needs to be properly protected and it is a contractual requirement of any mortgage that appropriate and adequate property insurance is in place.

If your property is for investment purposes and you intend to rent it out then buildings and contents insurance must be arranged on a landlord basis – you would not be covered by a standard household policy.
